How to Make Dinner Rolls
These classic dinner rolls will make a great accompaniment to your next meal.
-Hey everyone, I'm Judith. Today, we'll be cooking Classic Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls, a fantastic accompaniment to any meal. So, the ingredients you'll need are 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour; 2 envelopes of Yeast; 2 tablespoons of sugar; 1/2 teaspoon of salt; 1/2 cup of milk; 1/2 cup of water; 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine; and 1 to 1-1/4 cups of all-purpose flour. So very basic simple ingredients right there and not very hard to do either. Okay, so first of all, in a bowl, we're just gonna combine our salt, our whole wheat flour, our yeast, and our sugar. Give a little well and we can set that aside. In a small saucepan next to us, get that to medium high heat and we're gonna add in our butter, our water and our milk, and we want to get that really nice and hot to about 120 degrees Fahrenheit, so get that on high, and we'll wait for that warm and we'll add that to our flour mixture. Okay, so, our milk is done, milky buttery mixture warmed nicely. So, we'll just gonna add that our flour, and with an electric mixer, we're gonna beat that for about 2 minutes. Alright, so to that, we're then gonna add in a quarter cup of our flour and we'll beat that with the mixture, and we'll keep adding flour until a dough forms. So, we beat enough flour into our mixture until a dough has formed and now, we can just lightly flour our surface. We're gonna get our muscles going and we're gonna knead. Now, we're gonna knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Alright, so, we've been kneading for about 8 to 10 minutes, and this is exactly the consistency we want. So, we're just gonna place that in a bowl, cover it and let it rest for about 10 minutes. So, we've let our dough rest for about 10 minutes, looking good. So, what we're gonna do now is we're gonna divide this into 12 equal pieces. So, just with a knife, I mean just cut that as best you can. Let's see how many pieces I have here; one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, last one doesn't count of it. Alright, so, now what we're gonna do is we're gonna roll them into the balls and we're gonna place them in our greased 8-inch round pan. So, forming the small balls and we're gonna place them on there. So, once we've rolled all balls out unto the pan, we're gonna let that rest for about 30 minutes and let it rise a little more. So, we'll continue rolling our dough balls. So, our dinner rolls have been resting for 30 minutes, as you can see, they have risen, really taking nice shape, so they are now gonna go into the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 to 20 minutes. When they come out, you can actually baste them with a little bit of melted butter if you like and they're good to go, ready to eat. So, in the oven cook in 20 minutes. So our rolls are out of the oven. They've been in there for 20 minutes, lovely golden brown, still warm. You ca serve that up now with your favorite dish. So, that is how you make Classic Whole Wheat Rolls.
