How to Make Coffee Cake

Learn how to make coffee cake, and you've got a recipe that does double duty as breakfast or dessert. And this version couldn't be easier!

-Hey everyone, I'm Judith. Well, today, we'll be making Coffee Crumb Cakes, perfect with your nice cup of hot coffee. So what you'll need for this is 1-1/2 cups of all purpose flour; 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/8 teaspoon of salt; 1/2 cup or 1 stick of unsalted butter, softened; 2/3 cup of sugar; 2 large eggs; 1/3 cup of whole milk; 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Now, for our topping, we'll need 1/4 cup of packed dark brown sugar; 1/4 cup of granulated sugar; 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon; a pinch of salt; 1/3 cup of unsalted butter, melted; 1 cup of all purpose flour. Alright, so, let's preheat our oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, which we've just done, and we're gonna get our flour, our baking powder; and our salt into 1 bowl just give it a good mix, and we'll set that aside, alright. Now, in a large bowl, we're gonna add in our softened butter, and to our butter we're gonna add our sugar, and we're gonna beat that with an electric mixer until it's light and fluffy. Alright, so our butter-sugar mixture is coming together nicely. Now, we're gonna add our eggs one at a time into the mix and beat well after every egg. And the next one will go in. Alright, so once that's formed together, we're gonna add our flour, alternating with out milk. So, little bit of flour, little bit milk until reduce it all up. Alright, so all of our flour and milk is in there and last but not the least, let's just add that little bit of vanilla and beat it in there. Okay, perfect. So, have this lovely butter for me. Now, what we've done is we've greased our muffin tins and we've added a little bit of flour. Sprinkle little bit of flour on top of that. Now, all we gonna do is add our butter into the muffin tins, so in there go evenly into all of them. We're gonna repeat that with all of our butter. Alright, so that is all of butter there into our muffin tins, fantastic. So, we can just sit that aside for 1 moment, and now, we can prepare the topping. So, for our crumb and topping, this is what we gonna do, let's add in to a bowl both sugars, the brown sugar and the white sugar. Our cinnamon just gonna give that lovely smell, and pinch of salt. And to that, we're gonna add in our melted butter. So, give that a good mix. So, once that's forming together, we'll then gonna add in our fluor, and this is best to do with your hands because we wanna create this little kind of small balls that can put on of our cake. So, flour goes in, just drop bit by bit, and with your hands, with your fingers, just crumble it up, that is little clumps, little balls, perfect, so that should do it. So, that is now gonna be placed on top of our cake. So little it on each enough to cover the top, and we're gonna cover each little cake in the muffin tin. So, that is now done. That's gonna go in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and makes sure that cools completely before you dig into them. Okay, so we've taken our coffee crumb cake. It was in there for 20 minutes. we let it rest completely on a rack, and now we've transferred them to a plate and they are looking fantastic. Nice crumbly on the top, golden brown, and that is ready now to serve up with a nice cup of coffee. There you. That's how you make your coffee crumb cakes.
