How to Make Scalloped Potatoes
This potluck favorite is sure to impress guests. Baking these creamy scalloped potatoes to a nice golden brown finish is the perfect entrée for any event.
-Hey everyone, I'm Judith. Well today, we'll be cooking Creamy Scalloped Potatoes, a wonderful side dish, one of those dishes that is perfect to take to a potluck. So what you will need is 2 tablespoons of butter; 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour; 1/2 teaspoon of salt; 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper; 1 cup of whipping cream, half in half, or light cream, we're using light whipping cream today; 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese, and 2 pounds of roasted potatoes, peeled and cut into 8 inch thick slices. Alright, so very simple dish and can be done in no time. So, first of all, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit, get that nice and hot. So, in a saucepan here, we're gonna get it to a medium heat, and we're gonna add in our butter first of all. I'm gonna let that melt into there. So, once that butter is melted, we're gonna stir in our flour and our salt and pepper into there. That's gonna thicken up pretty quickly, and then we're gonna put in the whipping cream all at once into there too, good. So, we're gonna just let bubble up and get nice and thick before we add in our cheese. So, last but not the least, let's add in our lovely parmesan cheese just gonna go wonderfully with our potatoes. So, get that all together. With buttered our 2-quard shallow casserole dish here ready for our potatoes. Our sauce is just perfect right there. Now, let's start to layer our thinly sliced potatoes and what we're gonna do is just gonna create layers every time. So, in there go, that can be overlapping ever so slightly just to cover the bottom, nice and thin, very good, going there, fabulous, and then what we're gonna do is we're just gonna pour over with this spoon our lovely buttery, creamy sauce on top of that cheesy sauce. Spread that on there, and then we're just gonna do an extra layer on top and work our way up our casserole dish, so again, we repeat the process, few layers of potatoes there, and then we'll put the cream on top. So, we're just gonna put our last layer of sauce on top of our potatoes. We filled up a beautiful casserole there. We are now ready to cover our casserole with some foil and we're gonna bake in 325 degree oven for 40 minutes covered. Then, we're gonna uncover it and bake it further for 25 minutes until the potatoes are nice and tender. Alright guys, so we've taken our potatoes from out of the oven. They are nice and tender. Check it with a little pork just to make that they are soft and tender, and that's it. That is now done, nice and golden brown on the top, ready to serve up with an entree or take to your potluck.
