-Hi everyone, I'm Judith with recipe.com. Now, there's nothing like a bowl of homemade soup to impress your friends, and today we'll be making a split pea soup. So, what you'll need for this is 1 bag or 1 pound of dried split green peas, picked over and rinsed; 2 cups of chopped onion; 3 cloves of garlic; 8 small vegetable bouillon cubes; 1 bay leaf; 12 cups of water; 1 cup of chopped baked ham; 1 cup of chopped celery; 3/4 cups of chopped carrots; 2 large sprigs of fresh thyme or half a teaspoon of dried thyme, we're using fresh thyme today; 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper; a dash of liquid hot pepper sauce; and 1 jar of chopped pimiento. So, in a large pot to the side of us, we are gonna get in first of all our split peas, fabulous. There's not thing like doing a split peas soup from scratch. You got a little bit of time on a cold a cold day is the best. So, in there goes a lot with our chopped onion. Our cloves of garlic go in there too, our bouillon vegetable cubes. Let's add in our bay leaf there too, and our water, so we'll drop that in there. And we can break down the bouillon cubes a little bit, so they mix in. So, once that's brought to a boil, we're then gonna reduce the heat to a simmer and that would gonna simmer uncovered for about an hour. So, our spit pea soup has been simmering now for an hour uncovered and that is smelling beautiful in here all those fantastic flavors in the pot. So, now after the hour, we are going to put in our veggies. So, our celery goes in, our carrots, our ham, and out thyme. Pour in your liquid hot pepper sauce, so give that a good stir, and we're gonna let that cook now for another hour. Let it simmer for an hour, and then we'll ad in the remaining ingredients. So, once that's all in there, we want to remove our bay leaves. We can find them, there you go and also, and also that sprig of rosemary, there they bay leaf. And I have to search it out; there it goes. Sorry, a sprig thyme. So, our thyme is out there. Now, if you like, you can also take out your garlic cloves. You might have to search in there a little bit together now, but get those out, so you don't have to bite any of them. Now, that is about done. Just give that a good stir, and last but not the least, let's add in our pimientos, like so. What a great color, flavor, and that is warming upon a cold day. I don't know what will, beautiful. You've got that saltiness of the ham with the split peas. It just goes perfectly. So, make sure to serve this up nice and hot. Into a bowl it goes, and look at that, lots of goodness in there. So, there you go, that is a healthy bowl of soup to have on a cold winters day. That is how you make split pea soup.
