How to Make Green Beans with Caramelized Onions
For a fantastic side full of flavor, these green beans with caramelized onions and bacon are a great addition to any entrée
-Hi everyone, I'm Judith. Well today, we'll be making green beans with onion and bacon, a fantastic side dish to any entree. So, what you'll need is 8 ounces of bacon, chopped into 1 inch pieces; half an onion, sliced thinly; 3 tablespoons of sugar; half a teaspoon of kosher salt; 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper; and 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar; and of course 12 ounces of green beans. So, in our skillet next to us, let's get our bacon in there. So, we wanna get our bacon nice and crisp. So, we'll saute those until they are brown and crisp. So, our bacon is nicely brown and crispy now. So, we can just transfer that to a plate, but reserve the fats in the skillet. We wanna be using that to cook the rest of our ingredients. Smelling good in here, that's the show, fantastic. So, we can just sit that aside for the moment. Now, in our skillet, with that fat, bacon fat, we're gonna add in our onion, and those slices to just break apart easily. So, the onions are in the skillet and to that we're gonna add our sugar, our black pepper and salt, and our apple cider vinegar goes in there too. Now, on a medium heat, we're gonna let that get nice and tender, soft and tender. So, our onions are nice and tender. There's a beautiful color to them. So, we're just gonna turn that off, transfer them now into a bowl. How amazing to salad just like this. Now, we have steamed our green beans to get a nice tender, and we're gonna add it to our onion-bacon mix, and that can almost be like a salad in itself, but I like to serve it as a side dish with some meat or chicken or, you know, thanksgiving party too. Alright, so that's in there. We're gonna put through our steamed green beans too, and then add in this wonderful crispy bacon bits. What a fantastic combination, alright. We'll give that a good stir. Get all those flavors winning each other, and that is it, quick simple, you got some lovely beautiful textures in there with the crispiness of the bacon, then nice crunch from your green beans, and that beautiful tenderness from the onions. So, there you go everyone, that's how you make green beans with onions and bacon.
