Kohlrabi

(coal RAH bee) A globe-shaped vegetable bulb that grows above the ground and is topped with dark green leaves. Kohlrabi usually is pale green, although purple varieties may be found. Both varieties have white flesh. The kohlrabi bulb has a sweet, mild, flavor, similar to turnips, and the leaves taste like spinach.
