Cashew

The seed of a tropical, apple-like fruit. The kidney-shaped, beige-colored nut is enclosed in a toxic shell and protrudes from the bottom of the fruit. To make cashews safe to eat, the toxic shells are removed and the nuts are cleaned, and they usually are roasted before marketing. Cashews are famous for their rich, buttery flavor.
