Bitters

An aromatic, alcoholic liquid with a bitter taste that is used in small amounts as a flavoring, especially in alcoholic drinks. It is made from a mixture of roots, barks, herbs, leaves, and alcohol.

Recipes

  1. Manhattan

    Bitters , a key ingredient in many cocktails, has a pungent bittersweet flavor. It's combined with bourbon and sweet vermouth in this classic cocktail.

    An orange slice, sugar, and bitters are combined in a glass before bourbon is added to create this traditional cocktail.

  3. The Martinez, Stirred

    The original Martinez (from which the dry martini likely evolved) called for Old Tom Gin and Boker's Bitters , neither of which has been available in the United States for decades. In 2007, I created this adaptation.
