Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 350 F. and arrange rack in center. Butter 2 (1-quart) shallow ceramic or glass baking dishes. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain in a colander and rinse under cold water until cool; drain well.
2.
Layer one-quarter of the pasta, one-quarter of each cheese, remaining pasta and cheeses in each dish. Evenly pour half-and-half over tops, sprinkle with crackers and dot with butter; season with salt and pepper
3.
Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake until tops are golden, 10 to 15 minutes more. Transfer to racks and cool 10 minutes
4.
To make spiderweb: Stir enough paprika into cheese dip in a small bowl until it is a deep orange color. Place in a heavy-duty resealable plastic bag with one corner snipped off to make a small hole and pipe a spiderweb design on top of the macaroni and cheese. Arrange spiders on webs.
