The proper way to enjoy this Southwestern Bloody Mary is as follows: take alternate sips of Sangrita and tequila, then bite a lime wedge to cleanse the palate.

Ingredients

6 medium tomatoes (about 2 pounds), peeled, seeded, and coarsely cut up, or one 28-ounce can tomatoes

1/3 cup lime juice

1 slice of a medium onion

1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and cut up

1 teaspoon sugar

Several dashes bottled hot pepper sauce

1 cup orange juice

1/3 cup tequila

Ice cubes

Celery stalks (optional)

Lime wedges (optional)
Directions

In a blender container place fresh tomatoes or undrained canned tomatoes, lime juice, onion, jalapeno pepper, sugar, and hot pepper sauce. Cover and blend until smooth.

Strain mixture through a sieve lined with 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth. Transfer to a serving pitcher. Stir in orange juice and tequila. Serve over ice cubes. If desired, garnish with celery stalks and lime wedges. Makes 7 to 9 (4-ounce servings).
