Rum-Glazed Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients
3 pounds sweet potatoes, pricked several times with a fork
3 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, and sliced lengthwise
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup pecan halves
8 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons dark rum
1/2 teaspo on ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground mace

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Bake sweet potatoes until tender, about 45 minutes. Cool and peel. Cut potatoes crosswise into 1/4-inch slices.
3. Toss apples in lemon juice.
4. Butter a 13-x-9-x-2-inch baking dish. Arrange sweet potatoes and apples in a dish. Sprinkle with pecans.
5. In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar, honey, rum, cinnamon, ginger, and mace. Cook mixture over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Pour over potato and apple mixture.
6. Bake for 30 minutes, basting occasionally with butter sauce. Then place pan under the broiler, approximately 4 inches from heat, until edges of potatoes and apples are slightly brown.
