How to Make Sweet Potato Casserole
Just because something is sweet doesn't mean it can't be good for you: Learn how to make sweet potato casserole and fill your body with loads of vitamin A and fiber.Sweet potato casserole typically appears on Thanksgiving tables, but there's no reason why it can't be served year round. Sweet potatoes--which are actually only distantly related to the potato--are high in beta-carotene (also known as vitamin A) as well as vitamin C. When eaten with the skin, it's said sweet potatoes pack more fiber than oatmeal.
Contrary to popular belief, sweet potatoes and yams are not the same thing. While the term is often used interchangeably at grocery stores across the nation, it's not actually correct--the two vegetables aren't even related. Yams have higher sugar and moisture content than sweet potatoes and are grown in parts of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
There are numerous methods for cooking sweet potatoes. For a casserole, it's important to scrub the skins well and cut off the bruised spots; in fact, for this particular dish, the potatoes are typically peeled. If boiling, whole sweet potatoes can be dropped in the pot, but dicing it in 1- or 2-inch pieces saves on cooking time. Roasting is also a preferred method because it caramelizes the sweet potatoes, adding flavor to the dish.

-Hey everyone, I'm Judith. Well today, I'm gonna show with
you how to make a delicious sweet potato bake. So,
the ingredients you will need for this are 3 cups
of mashed sweet potatoes; 2 tablespoons of margarine or butter,
softened, we're using butter today; 1 teaspoon of grated orange
peel; 1/2 teaspoon of salt;
1 cup of miniature marshmallows; 3 cups of corn flakes
crush to 1-1/2 cups; 2 tablespoons of margarine or butter
melt, and we are using the butter. Very good, alright,
so, we preheated our oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, so
it's getting nice and hot for our bake. Now, in
a 1 quart baking dish, which we've sprayed with cooking
spray, we're gonna add in our lovely mashed cooked sweet
potatoes
into the dish, huh, they are good, and very good
for you, may I add good source of dietary fiber
and good to stabilize your blood sugar. Our orange peel
goes in there and that citrus is just gonna bring
out the sweetness of the sweet potatoes. Our soften butter
goes in there too and our salt. So, let's just
mix that all together in our dish
like so. I love using sweet potatoes in bakes. They
just taste so good and when you're doing what we
are doing, which is adding a different texture because we're
gonna add a little it of a crunch as you'll
see in a minute, it's gonna taste even better. So,
flatten that out now once it's all spread in.
Looking good, looking good. On top of that, we're gonna
add in our little mini marshmallows, so you can get
them stick in there a little. So that's just gonna
give it a lovely sweet, fun touch. There you go.
Who would thought marshmallows would be good to sweet potatoes,
but I'm telling you, they are, really are. So, we'll
put that all in until it covers the whole of
the casserole.
There you go, so, we spread them around there nicely.
So that's all marshmallows on top of that. Now, let's
mix in our cornflakes as we have there. So, this
is gonna give this is gonna give the whole bake
a nice crunch, a nice different texture to contrasting the
sweet potatoes. So, into the cornflakes goes in our melted
butter like so, give that a nice good mix.
Oh, I'm very tempted to eat this right now, but
I won't. Okay, very good, and when we'll just sprinkle
these on the top of our bake like so and
so [unk] that some of those marshmallows popping through. That
will be good. Alright, so, that goes into the oven
at 375 degrees Fahrenheit
for 30 minutes. We've taken our sweet potato bake now
from out of the oven. It's been in there 30
minutes and the crunchiness as you can see it's all
nice and golden brown where the cornflakes are. Those marshmallows
have nicely melted into our sweet potatoes. So, let's just
serve that up now. Get a nice corn apart and
that's a great dish to bring to a potluck or
around to a dinner, really, really nice, sweet treat.
There you go. That's how make a sweet potato bake.
