  • 1    box (1 pound) penne or your favorite short shaped pastaOn Sale
  • 1  head  broccoli, cut into 1-inch flowerets, stems peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices OR: 1 bag (about 1 pound) fresh broccoli floweretsOn Sale
  • 2  tablespoons  olive oilOn Sale
  • 1/2  pound  Canadian bacon, dicedOn Sale
  • 1  medium-size  onion, halved and sliced crosswiseOn Sale
  • 2  cloves  garlic, slicedOn Sale
  • 1/2  teaspoon  red-pepper flakesOn Sale
  • 1  can  (14.5 ounces) chicken brothOn Sale
  • 1/4  teaspoon  saltOn Sale
  • 1/4  teaspoon  black pepperOn Sale
  • 1  medium-size  ripe red tomato, cored and dicedOn Sale
  • 1/3  cup  grated Parmesan cheeseOn Sale

Directions

In large deep pot of lightly salted water, cook penne until al dente, firm yet tender, following package directions. For last 4 minutes of cooking, add broccoli. Drain.

Meanwhile, in large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add bacon, onion and garlic; saute 3 minutes. Lower heat to medium; add pepper flakes; cook until onion is softened, about 4 minutes. Stir in broth, salt and pepper; heat through. Remove from heat; stir in tomato.

Transfer hot pasta and broccoli to large serving bowl. Add bacon mixture from skillet; toss to combine. Stir in Parmesan, and serve immediately. Makes 8 servings.
