Ingredients
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
2 teaspoons baking powder
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 cup shortening
-
1/4 cup black olives, pitted and finely chopped
-
3/4 cup milk
Directions
1
Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in olives. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture, and add milk all at once. Stir with a fork until mixture is just moistened.
2
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Quickly knead, by gently folding and pressing the dough 10 to 12 strokes or until it is nearly smooth.
3
Roll out dough to a 16x8-inch rectangle, and cut lengthwise into thirty-two 1/2-inch-wide strips. For each breadstick, twist two strips together. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a 450 degree F oven for 10 minutes or until golden. Serve warm. Makes 16.
