Ingredients
-
4 ripe medium pears
-
1/3 cup desired dried fruit (such as dried cranberries, cherries, snipped apricots, or raisins)
-
1 tablespoon light pancake and waffle syrup product
-
1/2 cup pear nectar or apple juice
-
3 cups cooked oatmeal or multigrain cereal*
-
3 tablespoons chopped walnuts, toasted
Directions
1.
Cut pears in half, leaving stems intact on 4 of the halves. Remove cores. Arrange pears, cut sides up, in a 3-quart baking dish. Top pears with desired dried fruit. Drizzle pears with syrup product. Add the pear nectar or apple juice to the baking dish.
2.
Cover and bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until pears are tender, spooning cooking liquid over pears occasionally. Serve warm pear halves and dried fruit with hot cereal; sprinkle with walnuts. Drizzle with any remaining cooking liquid. Makes 8 servings.
3.
*NOTE: To make 3 cups cooked oatmeal or multigrain cereal, in a medium saucepan heat 3 cups water to boiling; stir in 1-2/3 cups regular rolled oats or 2-1/2 cups multigrain cereal. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes for oats or 1 to 2 minutes for multigrain cereal or until most of the liquid is evaporated, stirring occasionally. Let oats stand, covered, for 3 minutes.
