These cookies are a visual interpretation of hay stocks that dot fields across Nebraska. For simplicity, there are only five ingredients in these no-bake bars.

  • 1  3-ounce can  chow mein noodles (about 2 cups)On Sale
  • 1/2  cup  peanutsOn Sale
  • 1/2  of a 14-ounce can  sweetened condensed milk (2/3 cup)On Sale
  • 1/2  cup  semisweet chocolate piecesOn Sale
  • 1/2  cup  butterscotch piecesOn Sale

Directions
1.
Combine noodles and peanuts in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

Combine condensed milk, chocolate pieces, and butterscotch pieces in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, about 5 minutes or till pieces are melted.
3.
Pour chocolate mixture over noodles and peanuts. Stir till thoroughly coated. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper. Cool at room temperature, or chill in the refrigerator, till firm. Store, covered, in the refrigerator. Makes 30.
