Ingredients
  • 2   slices white or whole wheat bread
  • 1   tablespoon butter, softened
  • 1 - 2   ounces American, cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Havarti cheese, sliced

Directions
1. 
Place one slice of bread on work surface; top with cheese slices, cutting cheese to fit so all the bread is covered (overlap as necessary). Top with remaining bread slice. Spread with half the butter. Place, buttered side down, in a skillet over medium heat. Carefully butter top bread slice.

Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until cheese is melted.

Variation

  • Grilled Provolone and Pepperoni Sandwich:

    Prepare Grilled Cheese Sandwich as above, except use Provolone or mozzarella cheese and top cheese with 1 tablespoon pizza sauce and 5 to 6 slices (1/2 ounce) thinly sliced pepperoni.
