Go-Nutty Grilled Cheese

Caramel ice cream topping, pecans, and cinnamon make a sweet sauce for a wedge of Havarti cheese in this recipe. Serve with fresh fruit and bread for dessert or a sweet appetizer.

  • 3  ounces  Havarti, baby Swiss, Gruyere, or fontina cheese, about 3/4 inch thickOn Sale
  • 2  cups  fresh fruit such as strawberries, sliced peaches, grapes, apricots, pears, and/or applesOn Sale
  •     French bread slices, toastedOn Sale

Directions

In a grill with a cover, place a 6-inch cast iron skillet or other heavy pan on grill rack over medium-low heat. Add butter or margarine. Stir in caramel topping, pecans, and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. Spread over the bottom of the pan.

Place the cheese on top of the caramel mixture. Lower the grill cover and grill for 3 to 4 minutes or until the cheese is softened and heated through, but doesn't run or lose its shape.

Invert cheese onto a serving platter. Spoon on any topping remaining in pan. Serve immediately with fresh fruit and French bread slices. Makes 6 appetizer servings or 4 dessert servings.
