Fried Deviled Brie

This deep-fried appetizer is a cheese-lover's dream. A crispy mustard-and-pepper-spiked coating encases warm wedges of Brie.

1 8-ounceround Brie or Camembert cheese, chilledsee savings

2 tablespoonsall-purpose floursee savings

-
2 teaspoonsdry mustardsee savings

-
1eggsee savings

-
2 tablespoonsmilksee savings

-
1/2 cupfine dry bread crumbssee savings

-
1/4 teaspoonground red peppersee savings

-
1/4 teaspoonground black peppersee savings

-
Oil for deep-fat fryingsee savings

Fresh herbssee savings

-
1/2 cupjalapeno or other pepper jelly, warmedsee savings

Directions
1.
Cut cheese into 8 wedges. Set aside. On a piece of waxed paper, a small plate, or a small mixing bowl stir together flour and mustard. In another small mixing bowl stir together egg and milk. In another small mixing bowl stir together bread crumbs, red pepper, and black pepper.
2.
Coat each piece of cheese in flour mixture. Dip into egg mixture and coat with bread crumb mixture. Dip again into egg mixture and then into bread crumb mixture.
3.
Deep-fry coated cheese wedges in hot oil (365 degrees F.) for 30 to 60 seconds or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm with jelly. Makes 8 appetizer servings.
