Cinnamon Twist Date-Nut Bars

Ingredients
-
1 cup finely chopped dates
-
1/2 cup water
-
6 Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Twist Doughnuts, broken into pieces
-
3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
-
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 large egg, lightly beaten
-
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
1.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray an 8-x-8-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.
2.
In a small saucepan, combine dates and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until thickened. Set aside.
3.
In the work bowl of a food processor, pulse Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Twist Doughnut pieces until mixture looks like bread crumbs. Transfer crumbs to a bowl and add oats, brown sugar, soda, salt, butter, egg, and walnuts; stir to combine.
4.
Pat half of crumb mixture into bottom of prepared pan. Carefully spread date mixture on top. Gently pat remaining crumb mixture over date mixture.
5.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool and cut into bars.

Honey-Nut Bars
The distinctive flavor of honey comes through in these coconut and walnut bars drizzled with powdered sugar icing. Make and freeze the bars, without the icing, for as long as one month. Drizzle them with icing right before serving.
