Best Fresh Tomato Recipes: Farmers Market Faves

I’m no vegetable gardener. Homegrown vegetables have big floppy leaves and furry stems that I don’t like. Also, you have to pick too many caterpillars off them, and it’s always so hot when you go out to water them. For local vegetables, a farmer’s market works fine for me—except in the case of tomatoes. Those I do insist on growing myself.
This year I’ve got six big pots of tomato plants on my front steps. (No one uses our front door, so it mainly functions as a plant stand.) About once an hour I like to visit my crops. “Grow faster!” I urge them. “Stop keeping me in suspense!”
Because I want those tomatoes this instant! And when they’re finally ripe, here are all the things I’m going to do with them.
Savor the red, ripe juiciness of fresh summer tomatoes! Pick your way through all our tomato recipes!
