budget dinner recipesSometimes it doesn’t take all that much to transform something ordinary into something extraordinary. To wit, these Texas Cheeseburgers. The effort here is minimal. All you’ve got to do is roast a couple poblano peppers (brush them with oil then roast in a 400˚F oven for about 12-15 minutes), seed them, chop them, and then toss them in a bowl along with some chopped onion, chili powder, salt, pepper and ground beef. Easy, right? The payoff though—exceptional! Given some time to diffuse through the meat, the spicy, peppery flavor takes these burgers to a whole other level of flavor and makes them earn their Lone Star cred.

You’d be hard-pressed to get a burger as good as this one at your favorite sit-down restaurant. Yet the cost is even cheaper than your average fast-food drive-thru: this Texas Cheeseburger recipe yields 4 burgers at just $1.85 per burger. Now that’s what we call a value meal!
