Spaghetti and Meatballs: Make the Takeout

Spaghetti and MeatballsDon’t think spaghetti and meatballs is a dinner fit for an evening of romance? Well, call us sentimental, but was there ever a more sweetly romantic movie scene than when Disney’s Lady and the Tramp shared that plate of pasta to the strains of “Bella Notte?” And it was “heavy on the meat-a-ball!”

OK, so the chances that you and your lover will actually slurp on the same strand of spaghetti are pretty slim, but when you cook up this homey, satisfying, and elementally delicious Italian dish instead of stopping to pick it up at the local trattoria, somebody may just get kissed.

This Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe combines ground beef and turkey sausage for a meatball that has a more complex flavor. And it also has a bit of Parmesan cheese for a nice tang. The classic sauce, made with whole tomatoes and tomato purée, is fragrant with basil and oregano.

Buy fresh pasta (or make your own pasta) for a spaghetti-and-meatballs dinner that will take this everyday favorite to another level. (Sure it’s a great dinner for the whole family, too, but tonight it’s about amore!)
