peanut butter recipesUnless you’re dealing with nut allergies in your home, you likely have a good old jar of peanut butter in your pantry. And if you’ve got kids, it’s probably readily accessible. After all, nothing quite solves the “quick lunch” conundrum like slapping together a classic PB&J.

But as long as you’ve got that jar sitting around anyway, why not find some ways to let peanut butter step out a bit? Sure, jelly is to peanut butter what Ernie is to Bert, a classic duo we’d never try to split. Yet even Fred Astaire danced on occasion with someone other than Ginger.

Whether it’s crazy easy peanut butter cookies, a wholesome breakfast smoothie or a way to turn an ordinary sandwich into a makeshift art project, here are three ways to put your peanut butter to good use (and leave the jelly in the fridge).

1. Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg and less than 20 minutes. That’s all you need to whip up a batch of these homemade peanut butter cookies for an after-school treat. (See, we told you it was easy.)

2. Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie

As easy as those cookies (easier, in fact) is this peanut butter and banana smoothie, a quick and simple way to add a nutritious boost to your morning breakfast routine.

3. Extra-Special Peanut Butter

Let the kids go wild at lunch mashing some tasty mix-ins to their ordinary peanut butter sandwiches. Dried fruit, granola and some mini chocolate chips — they’ll have so much fun they won’t know it’s actually good for them.
