3+ Things to Make With…Mustard
Well, ok … maybe you’re not planning an all-out mustard-fest like the folks at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wis. But even so, this is as good an excuse as any to celebrate the piquant sauce with that ever-so-right bite that can take anything from an ordinary hot dog or a plain old chicken breast and make it something worth savoring. Not to mention, these sorts of culinary “holidays” are the perfect time to snap up whatever it is that’s being celebrated; stores usually put it on sale.
Because it’s a special occasion, this week we bring you not three things … not four things … but five things to make with mustard. Each in its own way takes mustard out of the refrigerator door and puts it front and center, reminding us that, indeed, this ubiquitous condiment is worth celebrating after all.
We love this extra fancy mustard on our grilled brats — or really, just about any richly flavored meat. And we especially love the spiced variation.
If ever there were an odd couple in food, honey and mustard would seem to be it. And yet they just go so lovely together, particularly in this marinade that’s perfect for chicken.
Two parts yellow mustard to one part Dijon, and some chopped jalapeno for good measure — one bite of this on your hot dog, and you’re never going back to regular mustard again.
And now we return to honey and mustard. Well, why not? This not only makes for a crazy quick marinade, it doubles as a delicious salad dressing as well.
Speaking of salad dressing — chuck your store-bought dressings for this wonderfully flavored vinaigrette. Mustard may be the star here, but the supporting cast is tremendous.
