A Mother’s Day Tea: Sugar, Spice & Everything Nice

Good old Mom. How we love her! And as Mother’s Day approaches, how we wish we were back in preschool so that a teacher would take charge of our Mother’s Day gift — a clay disk with our hand print in it, or a fan made out of lace-trimmed wallpaper. Probably not something Mom would have picked out for herself, but a present she’d treasure because it came from her dear little preschooler.
We can’t get away with that kind of thing nowadays. We have to give Mom a real present — real in terms of either time or treasure. I vote for time, because most mothers already have enough stuff. And the best way to spend time on Mom is to make her something nice to eat, which (speaking as a mother) I prefer above all other presents. I never get enough treats. If anyone gave me a Mother’s Day tea, I would die of joy. If my own mother lived nearby, I would give her a Mother’s Day tea for sure. Since she doesn’t, I wonder if I can make her believe that this is her present …

A bountiful brunch? A fancy dinner? There are plenty of ways to treat mom!
