Mother’s Day Brunch: Skip the Crowds and Savor the Morning

We love Mom; we love brunch—so you’d think we’d absolutely flip for Mother’s Day brunch. But alas, no. You see, come Mother’s Day everybody and their mother (literally) is scrambling to make reservations for brunch. For, oh, we’d say about 99 percent of the population, it’s likely to be the one brunch reservation they make all year.
Mother’s Day means spring, of course, and to us, nothing spoils the warm mellow vibe of a springy Sunday morning more quick than being jostled and shoved as we wait for a table, the bill for a few overpriced mimosas and the I-can’t-believe-it’s-only-ten-in-the-morning expressions on the faces of the beleaguered waitstaff.
Our solution? Stay in! A homemade Mother’s Day brunch not only gives you the excuse to whip up some fresh, once-a-year treats, like cherry scones or baked cinnamon French toast, it gives you the chance to linger and actually enjoy the morning. That’s especially true when you’ve got recipes that are easy to make.
Start off with a springy Pineapple Mimosa then serve up whatever you like, from a colorful fruit salad to Petite Pancakes and a savory Potato Chive Frittata. Splurge on a centerpiece of fresh flowers, and you’ve got a brunch that any mother would love.
