Burger King Smoked Bacon and Cheddar Double Angus BurgerJust when you thought fast food restaurants had gone about as far as they could go when it comes to loading a simple sandwich full of gluttonous gobs of gut-busting ingredients, along comes Burger King’s Smoked Bacon and Cheddar Double Angus burger—with nearly 1,000 calories and 58 grams of fat.

What a royal diet disaster.

Don’t care about packing on the 966 calories? No concerns that 23 of those fat grams are of the saturated variety? Ready to gulp down not one, but two 6.4-ounce beef patties, along with bacon, cheese and plenty of mayo? Sorry. The New York Daily News reports the ginormous burger currently is only in stores in the U.K.

“As if just one 100-percent flame-grilled fully certified Aberdeen Angus Beef patty wasn’t enough, we added a second one for you more peckish [hungry] types,” Burger King describes the burger, according to the newspaper. “Next we smothered it in a tangy steakhouse sauce and added applewood-smoked bacon and Irish mature cheddar cheese and finally surrounded it with crisp lettuce, tomato and onion, salad and creamy mayonnaise. Gosh, we’re worn out.”

And we’re worn out thinking about the marathon we’d have to spend on the treadmill trying to burn the darn thing off. Not to mention how tiring it would be to explain away the scent of cheese, steak sauce and bacon seeping from our pores. Not so hungry now, are you?

As for those who find the calorie count to be a skosh excessive, a rep from the chain tells the media it’s not like the King is ordering folks to eat the thing every day.

“This is meant to be a treat,” a spokesperson advised.

Oh, a treat. So, that’s what they’re calling a heart attack on a bun these days.

Have it your way…. at home. Try these burger recipes!

These foods actually serve a purpose for the anorexic elderly and for people on chemo or who have trouble with their appetites. These folk simply need to pack in calories in the short term, with fat and protein in order to support and sustain their lives. Fast foods deliver a caloric wallop, and they are very tasty and bland. They are also low-cost and low-preparation. But for the rest of us, avoid, Except for once in a blue moon.

  • Pamela says:

    Leslie,

Don’t be insulting. Even my ten year old son knows the meaning of the word peckish. And even an someone who didn’t could have figured it out from the context. Americans are not that stupid…yet.

  • Home of the Whopper says:

I clicked on the link when you said “1,000 sandwich”. It’s only 966. You hooked me in. But please, anyone who uses a Subway napkin knows the nutritional content of a Whopper. Surely this double-Angus is worse. Some of us aren’t stupid. We know what we’re eating. You act like this is shcoking.

  • blackula says:

Newsflash: There are countless items on a million restaurant menus that are over 1000 calories. Most people are somewhat smart enough to realize what they pick is probably not diet friendly. And enough with the health costs JO SCHMO MORON. I pay my own premiums just like you so shut your hole and mind your business..

  • aster says:

The life span of humans has lengthened to the point that there are people saying social security can no longer function because people simply live too long now.

Seems like BK has found a delicious way to fix SS for us LOL>

Seriously people. there is a new long term study that has been recently released that proves that people who are thin or even a normal weight tend to die after surgery 30 to 40 percent more often then those that are heavy. Figure that one out .So if you need surgery in the future going to BK to pack on the pounds might be a good thing .

Its all a matter of balance. Its also a matter of freedom. Life is short even by todays standards , Obsessing over a burger has the hallmarks of a nazi society deciding for others what personal choices they make .

    • Surprised says:

Aster- I rarely enjoy comments from anyone and read them as a love/hate relationship- BUT I ENJOYED EVERY WORD SO WONDERFULLY WRITTEN!

  • zdoroviy says:

I do consider all of the ideas you have offered to your post. They are very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too quick for starters. May you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.

  • PantLoad says:

You can order this in the U.S. (you may need to sub the smoked bacon with regular bacon) – go in ask for a double angus, with bacon, cheddar, etc. — “have it your way” will cost extra, but they’ll make it. God have mercy on your soul.

  • Jackson says:

Yes it is unhealthy and I won’t be eating one, but who cares? It isn’t as if Burger King is forcing people to eat it. If someone is dumb enough to put that in their body, it should be their decision. Just don’t ask me to pay your medical bills.

    • Jo Schmo says:

Ahh… but are we not paying for said medical bills? The obesity epidemic in the U.S. has caused health insurance to skyrocket for all of us, not just the fatties that eat this shit. It is indeed delicious, all fast food is, and I LOVE it (although my intestinal tract does groan a bit afterwards), but the issue is that when the fatties that eat it every day suffer from numerous health problems, the NATION (the people) are the ones that pay for it… literally. Same goes for smoking, although I also love a good cig, if (and when) I get lung cancer, the citizens of this immediate gratification-istic country will be the ones that pay for it.

      • Cue says:

This country will never get a handle on medical costs until it limits or eliminates investor owned, for-profit healthcare.

As for the BK Belly Bomber, go for it. Just don’t make consuming such things a habit. Eating one high fat calorie laden burger, or one a couple times a month, is not going to affect your overall health.

For that matter, mortality statistics show that your “good cig” is unlikely to cause your demise. The majority of light to moderate smokers live a normal lifespan.

  • Joyce says:

I’ll bet I’m not the only one who is sick and tired of the calorie/fat nazi’s who feel it is their duty to admonish people for their food choices.

We are not stupid. We know fruits and veggies are better choices. We know saturated and trans fats are bad for us.

But you know what? Living in the real world, and eating what we like is one of the few freedoms left. An occasional over-the-top meal isn’t going to kill anyone. And if someone chooses to eat this way every day, they will likely die early and save insurance/taxpayer money.

    For crying out loud….

  • Johnny says:

The problem with this sandwich, and Burger King, is the size of the sandwiches. They might be 1000 calories but you still need onion rings, some fries, and a large drink to feel full. It’s like eating a doughnut. You might as well head over to Carl’s (Hardee’s).

  • Praetorian says:

Boooooo to Burger King for making this delectable looking sandwich only available in the UK. I was about to get on for lunch! I WANT THAT BK!

  • Phil says:

Ya know, I’m going to go eat one because it probably tastes better than most the @#$ the author of this article makes.

  • jdizz says:

    Uhh… Who cares?
Almost any decent burger at ANY restaurant is going to have close to this many calories. I guess people are used to eating Fast Food JUNK and now they added a decent amount of meat so people flip. It isn’t the food folks, it is your sedentary lifestyle… GTFO the couch.

    • John.UK says:

i dont care how many calories the thing has. a good burger should weigh in at 2 to 4 lbs so BK has some way to go yet .

  • Jared says:

Now I can’t wait to get one! I think I’ll have one for dinner tonight!

  • Chills says:

When will people stop calling burgers sandwiches? A burger is a burger, it has earned the name.

  • LOLwut says:

Most burgers at any restaurant are usually upwards of 700 calories. There’s just no chicken hawk new agencies going door to door looking for calories counts and than squawking about them on their websites.

  • John says:

Las Vegas is where you can find the top burgers for those of us that don’t give a damn. Heart Attack grill has it all, burgers shakes and fries. 1,000 is childs play compared to this grill. Try it once in your life. (that may be your last great burger) John.

  • Bob says:

That’s nothing, burges at the Heart Attack Grill in Nevada can reach 8,000 calories.

    • Todd in DC says:

You are right, and I think someone actually had a heart attack while eating one.

I stick with the occasional bison steak for my protein. But then, I don’t consider gluttony a virtue.

      • Jo Schmo says:

Todd, that was an awesome line. I’m quite glad i decided to read this article because of that (“I stick with… gluttony a virtue”) and I thank you for posting. No homo, but I like the way you think.

  • James says:

    Thank GOD for our freedoms!
Free enterprise is awesome. If the people do not want it, they do not buy it. If people do not buy it, The Chain will stop selling it!
Oddly enough, the McRib keeps coming back …why?? Go BK, GO!

  • hungryjack says:

This is the best advertisement Burger King can get, they must be happy!!!! No cost and I bet the OH MY GOSH article sold hundreds of thousands of burgers

  • danm says:

Hamburger OK. Bread OK. Bacon OK. But as soon as someone places one on top of the other, its panic in the streets. Get the govennment involved! People will be dropping like flies!! Someone has to save us!! IDIOTS!

  • Steve says:

As an underweight skinny guy, I heartily welcome this new calorie bomb into my diet. I’ll be scarfing these down at every opportunity. I look forward to having some girth on my feeble little arms.

Meanwhile all the fatties will be sucking these down too, giving themselves coronaries and working themselves out of the gene pool. The people who remain will drive smaller cars because they’re not obese, and global warming will be solved.

    Good play, BK, good play.

  • Mooz says:

Granted, this is a rediculously unhealthy sandwich to be sure. Consider this, If you ate an Egg Mc Muffin for breakie and then one of these hamburgers for lunch, followed up with a big salad with grilled chicken and fat free dressing for dinner your total caloric intake for the day would be around 1600-1800 calories. Realistically, thats not a bad count especially if you were active during the day. I suppose the exhorbitant amount of saturated fats would negate any justification. I wont be eating one of these.

  • Dina says:

What has happened to plain, old common sense. My spouse has suffered from severe “genetic” cardiac difficulties for over 30 years. Common sense tells me what he and my family should be eating and it isn’t one of these burgers. The under 10′s out there who are eating those disgusting nuggets aren’t driving to McD’s and buying them on their own. Time for their parents to exercise some plain, old common sense !!

  • PAPilot says:

Looks like it’s not a 1,000 calorie sandwich. It says right there that it’s 966 calories. The article title is misleading, hyperbolic, and sensationalist. Shame on the “journalist” that thought that was proper.

    • redmenace says:

get a grip if this was to sensationalize something that was not for the the good of your health then yeah it would be but for the sake of 34 calories. A 1000 calorie burger makes you sit up and take notice.

    • Claudio says:

oh! our apologies! 966 is quite a different amount of calories…that makes the whole thing soooo much better! can’t understand people that eat like bears…if you think that this sandwich is normal people food, then you deserve the heart attack. enjoy!

    • Chris says:

There really needs to be a “sarcasm” font, because, apparently, people have a difficult time discerning it :p

  • angel says:

if people want to eat it let them—now and then in moderation would be ok-BUT you can’t tell people what to eat! like it says, its a treat-not an every day thing–but for some people it is an everyday thing and thats their problem!!! free will and all that

  • B says:

27 days out of the month- disgusting- The day I have my period- awesomeness and give me two!

  • roman says:

wonder if it tops the Texas double whopper with double cheese and jalapeno’s

  • Mike Smith says:

Why not let people eat what they want and not worry about it? So what if the burger has 1000 calories and 58 grams of fat? Personal responsibility and a little freedom to do as we please needs to enter at some point.

    • fred77777777 says:

I agree. The stuff that should be disclosed is how Mcdonalds makes their nasty chicken mcnuggest. Throw a whole chicken in a machine, come out with a pink paste, get the color out with ammonia, then fry them up. Serve them to everyone which includes mostly 10 and under.

      • JD2299 says:

        fred77777777,
You are extremely ignorant if you really believe any company is allowed to crush up whole chickens to make nuggets. Try a little research before you spout some nonsense. FYI, McDonalds went to all white meat chicken nuggets around 2004…

      • roman says:

personal freedom is against republican laws ask any repub they deny anything including jesus

    • meandrolene says:

and what about the millions it costs the taxpayer to provide medical help to the pigs that cant control themselves ?

      • josephw28 says:

I agree completely with meandrolene. Sure, America is all about freedom to choose what you’re going to eat. And judging by the fatness of this country that’s not going too hot now is it? What we need is NOT another 1000cal burger, we need to be encouraging people to make healthy choices. If this is what a 12 year old considers an average lunch, God help us.

      • Rick M says:

That’s exactly why people should have to buy their own personal health insurance! Stop the madness and get the government out of the insurance industry and let people eat what they want to eat.

        • Welfare State says:

If we didn’t have a welfare state and people had to pay for their own care, we wouldn’t need big brother and the nanny state to worry about it.

      • Steph says:

Most of the so called millions you say it takes to cover “pigs” that can not control themselves cover people who are not over weight. I know a lot of people who have zero fat on their bodies and they have had major heart attacks. I take it from your non-knowledge of anything medical that you do not work in the medical field and therefore only know what you hear from certain people or media. How would you like to be called a name like you called over weight people? Lets just call you ignorant or dumb, it does not feel good does it? By the way no I am not overweight and you spell can’t like that, not cant, although you really should have used can not instead.

    • greywoodfoxhall says:

Why not let people do the drugs they want to do too? Obesity kills more people than drugs do a year (by a huge margin), yet you go to jail for doing drugs… If you’re fat, you can go on TV’s “The Biggest Loser” and win money for just becoming a little less fat. If you do drugs, you can go on “Intervention” and be made to look psychotic & pathetic.

    • sharon brown says:

Why not let people eat what they want and not worry about it? Because most of North America is obese, that’s why. Who would want to eat this mess? The only person I can think of is the guy on Man VS Food, a disgusting show that has one man, who is packing on the pounds since the show began, eating enough food for a family. Think of all the people who have not enough to eat and tell me that this isn’t waste.

  • LBradley says:

It would just be a lot cheaper, better and healthier to just buy your own groceries and fix your own burger. Besides BK food, and service, has been on the decline for quite sometime now.

    • chris says:

unfortunately, due to huge differences between the amount of federal subsidies that go to vegetable and grain farms and the subsidies that go to beef production, it’s never cheaper to buy your own groceries.

  • wildcat92 says:

Honestly, I thought the next thing like this would have the “Mega Stacker”. The same thing as a regular stacker, but with the quarter pound patties.

  • rich says:

i would have thought it would be better to make zero cal burger that tasted good that would be more challenging

  • JoanWilson says:

I want to eat it just to offset how much of a douchebag Lesley Kennedy is

  • Ioannis Valassis says:

Hungry … oh so hungry !!!

  • Skillet says:

While I would never eat that I think it is awesome that I have the option. I’m sure putting a warning label on a burger will be just as effective and the one on cigarettes, the don’t drink and drive campaign, or just saying no to drugs.

  • cindy says:

in my opinion, with all of the OBESITY running rampant in this county today, not to mention high cholesterol and BP, there needs to be some guidelines as to how many calories per single item that is sold to the general public with regards to safety. Or, like cigarettes, be made to add a warning label.

    • smartpeopledon'tneedguidance says:

your an idiot!! let me guess you also want warning labels in cars and think we should help every poor person out even if they have no desire to work?? its your choice to eat crap we don’t need to put warning labels on it, people know what is healthy and whats not but people still chose to eat garbage and them being fat is only there problem.

    • jff757 says:

I agree with Cindy, but to an extent. What the USA needs to do is to stop overprocessing their food. When it comes to convenience restaurants and stores, you will find nearly 0 to 5 percent of fresh ingredients in the food. Calorie count isn’t as much an ordeal to our diets as saturated fat is, or added preservatives, dyes, chemicals, pesticides, etc. etc. This has led to many diseases: cancer, heart disease, addiction to food (leading to obesity). A majority of Americans have fallen victim to this because of the abundance of such food.

      • ADM says:

jff757… I’m glad you have an opinion on what you think the ‘ordeal’ is. Unfortunately, you are wrong. Calorie count and serving size is very much the main problem in the USA. If anyone thinks the main cause of obesity is anything *other* than an excess of caloric intake relative to calories expended, they are sorely mistaken. It’s simply that, and it’s a lethal problem. Excess body weight (obesity) is associated with:
        - a 4.5X greater risk of developing hypertension
        - a 3.7X greater risk of developing type II diabetes
        - a 3.3X greater risk of developing gall bladder disease
        - a 2.2X greater risk of developing coronary artery disease
        - and the list goes on.

Obesity is also attributable to between 7-41% of all cases of cancer, depending on the type (endometrial, colon and breast cancers bearing the strongest statistical relationship).

If you think ‘calorie count’ isn’t an ‘ordeal’, try again!

    • Eddie says:

      Newsflash Cindy:

      Germany lost the war!

  • Donna E. says:

I’m getting a stomach ache just thinking about it…uuugh.
