May Flower CookiesBaskets filled with candy, cookies, and other sweet treats, to be left on a friend or sweetie’s doorstep, is a lingering piece of classic Americana. But the origins of this May Day festival go all the way back to pagan times and came to us via our European ancestors.

We think one of the prettiest baskets is a mix of flower cookies that are simple to make and make any basket shine with color. But popcorn-and-candy balls, caramels, or nut macaroons are other easy ways to whip up a traditional batch of treats.

Remember: Leave the basket and ring the bell, trying not to get caught. If you do, that means a kiss. Sweet indeed.
