Isn’t there supposed to be a gene that curbs your appetite in hot weather? Because I don’t seem to have it. I get just as hungry in the heat as I do in winter. The good thing, though, is that I’m not craving things creamy sauces and piles of melted cheese. When it’s hot and humid, I tend to go for crisper textures and keener flavors.
Which is lucky, because that usually means lighter food. In summer, you can cut tons of fat out of your diet without even noticing. Lemon juice and marinades come to the fore. In-season vegetables and fresh herbs are everywhere, waiting to help you whittle calories out of traditional recipes. Sit down at the picnic table and dig in! You’ll be doing your health a favor.
Make all kinds of healthy summer dishes!
