Leftover Candy? Baking on the Morning After

With Halloween usually comes a pile of leftover candy. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s on my mind even before I stock up on candy—I like to be prepared for what I might be left with. Sure, it’s delicious to just eat the candy as is, but that can get repetitive if you have pounds of the stuff left. Which makes me believe that turning that candy into something even more delicious is one of the best dessert ideas around.
So this year, rather than bringing our extra candy into the office (where there will surely be plenty to go around!), I’m preaching the “bake with your candy bars” credo.
Here are four sweet ideas.
Fun Size Milky Ways = Candy-Topped Shortbread Bars
Peanut Butter Cups = Candy-Bar Bars
Mini Snickers = Peanut Butter and Candy Cookies
Heath Bars = Toffee Bars
If you are looking for quick and easy desserts, think back to how fun make-your-own-sundae bars were when you were a kid and get chopping. Set out little bowls of chopped up candy bars and serve with vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
Either way you go, these treats will convince you that a little repurposing goes a long way.
