Sporty Kids Snack: Olympic Medal Treats

The summer Olympics are here! When I was a kid, watching the Olympics was something I always looked forward to. Now I get to share all that with my own kids: love for country, sense of unity, the joy of a win and the disappointment of a loss, being awestruck by the athletes’ abilities and cheering for the underdog. (I cry for every medal ceremony, whether my country wins or not.) In honor of the Olympics, I whipped up these Olympic medal treats for all those young aspiring Olympians out there!
What’s You’ll Need:
rice cereal treats (your favorite recipe)
vanilla frosting
orange and yellow food coloring
black writable frosting
thin ribbon
To Make Olympic Medal Treats:
Use a small cup to cut circles out of the rice cereal treats. Use a water bottle straw (or any thick straw) to punch out holes in the top of each circle. Divide the vanilla frosting into 3 containers. Add yellow food coloring to one, orange food coloring to another, and some black frosting in the last bowl. Mix until desired coloring. Spread colored frosting on the treats. Use the writable frosting to draw the Olympic symbol on each medal. Let the frosting set before adding the ribbon for each medal.
You can create your own games and present winners with these edible medals, or just enjoy them while watching the summer Olympics!
Go ahead, play with your food! Check out all of Kellie’s kid-friendly creations!
