How To Coupon: May Deals!

My family just returned from a week’s vacation. Our night flight home had us pulling in the driveway after midnight, with everyone tired, cold and hungry. Those little packets of airplane peanuts hadn’t even come close to satisfying our appetites, and all the restaurants and shops in our small town had closed hours earlier. Thanks to my stockpile, though, I was able to easily prepare some hot food before tucking everyone into bed. The next morning, I even had enough shelf-stable and frozen foods to pack my kids’ school lunches. Yet another reason why it’s great to have an at-home stockpile!

So what deals can you expect to land in the coming month? Here’s your sales forecast for May:

Many of the May sales focus on May holidays. First up is Cinco de Mayo! Expect to see sales on salsa, tortillas, shredded cheese, canned beans, frozen Mexican foods, piñatas and piñata fillers (which can be stored for summer birthday parties!).

Immediately after that, get ready for Mother’s Day on May 13, and for this you’ll see flowers, gift sets, and candles on sale.

Memorial Day marks the traditional (if not official) start of summer, so throughout the month look for sales on condiments, BBQ items, chips, dips and picnic supplies. I’m already seeing condiment sales in my stores. Summer lawn care and gardening supplies, beach supplies and water toys will be discounted throughout the beginning of summer as well.

Finally, May is National Pet Month, and I’m already seeing promotions recognizing this at my grocery store, with sales on pet food and accessories.
