It’s the first Friday of the month, so it’s time for your March sale forecast!

Every month, some items in the sale cycle are specific to holidays and events, and this month is no exception. NCAA Basketball’s March Madness is coming up, so expect to see sales and coupons on all sorts of foods suitable for game-viewing parties—chicken wings, cheese, and sandwich fixings. Stock up on soda, crackers, chips, and pretzels for now and later.

Also on deck: St Patrick’s Day! I’ll be taking advantage of sales on corned beef and cabbage, so I can prepare my annual boiled dinner. I make this for my husband once a year, on the one day that he’s Irish. This is also a great time to stock up on baking soda, which will be discounted for Irish soda bread.

Easter is in early April, so coupons and sales for Easter candy and egg decorating supplies are already available.

In addition to these holidays and observances, March is Frozen Food month, so grocers will have sales on frozen meals, veggies, and juice concentrate. It’s just a couple of  months until farm season starts across most of the country, so use this opportunity to stock up on enough frozen veggies to last you until then.

Remember to always rotate your stockpile. The first items IN to your stash should always be first OUT.  That way you can make sure you are never consuming food that is past its “use by” date.
