Hot ‘Corn’ Dog! — Yeah, with Double Bacon

Iowa State Fair: Food NewsBe honest, now: A trip to the state fair isn’t really about a ride on the Ferris wheel, checking out that ginormous hog, or listening to that concert featuring some of the worst bands of the ‘80s. No, the state fair is about consuming lots and lots of food. Specifically, the most obnoxious, over-the-top, I can’t believe I’m actually standing in line to pay for this, gut bomb of a dish you can possibly imagine.

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up as we introduce the Double Bacon Corn Dog.

The Des Moines Register reports on this Iowa State Fair masterpiece for 2012. Forget the deep-fried butter of 2011. A hot dog wrapped in bacon, deep-fried, dipped in “bacon bit-enriched” batter, and then deep-fried again is sure to have ‘em queuing up in droves once the fair kicks off Aug. 9. BYOD (Bring Your Own Defibrillator).

The culinary feat is the work of  Campbell’s Concessions, and it’s the company’s first new addition to its menu since it brought fair-goers the foot-long corn dog a decade ago. “We’ve been at the fair about 100 years and we try to keep it pretty basic,” Campbell’s Eric Campbell tells the Register. “But I thought, ‘We need to do something fun with these corn dogs’.”

We say it’s worth a trip to Iowa to try the Double Bacon Corn Dog for yourself (not to mention an Iowa pork tenderloin bigger than your head), but there are plenty other crazy foods to find at state fairs nationwide, too. Fox News points out the White Chocolate Bacon in California and the Deep-Fried Bubblegum in Texas. This year, the New York State Fair will feature the Big Kahuna Donut Dog, a bacon-wrapped hot dog served inside a maple donut, according to Syracuse.com. And, if you find yourself in Indiana, you may just have to stop by for some spaghetti and meatballs ice cream. NPR reports the “noodles” are gelato, the “sauce” is strawberry tomato, the “meatballs” are chocolate, and the “cheese” topping is shredded white chocolate. Those Hoosiers are crazy!

Just be sure you give yourself plenty of time between eating and hitting the midway. That stuff is weird enough to think about going down. We absolutely don’t want to deal with what might happen if it comes back up.

Hello there! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog. Is it tough to set up your own blog? I¡¯m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I¡¯m thinking about making my own but I¡¯m not sure where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Appreciate it
