Over-the-top Halloween snacks are everywhere this time of year, but it would be hard to find something as cute and simple as this bat-shaped ham and cheese sandwich. The trick to this treat is all in the creative use of the sandwich crusts. My daughters now think that bats are the cutest, most cuddly things on the planet.

What you’ll need:
bread
ham (or whatever lunch meat your family prefers)
cheese

To make the bat:
Assemble your sandwich(es). Take a heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut a heart shape out of the sandwich. With a sharp knife, hand cut a head (see photo) out of the remainder of the sandwich (use the curved point of the heart-shaped cookie cutter to shape the head to fit perfectly into the bat body). Use pieces of the crust for the ears and the branch.  Cut triangles out of a slice of ham for the pinks in the ears and the feet. Slice small strips of crust for the folded wing; ut a triangle of crust for his nose. Use 2 chocolate sprinkles for the sleeping eyes.

Serve with craisins, raisins, and pecans as insects the bat would eat. Or make him a vampire bat by serving cranberry juice or vegetable juice as blood!!
