Grilled Cheese Sandwiches — A Sweet Christmas Treat

candy-cane-grilled-cheese: food newsHow will your Christmas Party stand out from the rest? (Hint: It has nothing to do with wearing lampshades on your head after a few holiday libations.)

Here’s a tip: Your party will rock — or roll down hill — depending on the food you serve. And nothing’s more OMG-worthy that these Candy Cane Grilled Cheese sandwiches, from the blog Melt but brought to us today by the website Delish.

Everybody loves grilled cheese. We know that for sure. And who doesn’t go crazy for Christmas Candy Canes? Even if you don’t eat candy, they’re so pretty. And so useful. Think of decorating the tree, stuffing stockings, hanging them on your door. Think of cooking with candy canes, too, if you want to get into the holiday spirit.

But think creatively. We do not recommend Candy Cane eggnog or Candy Cane Christmas Pizza Rolls or Candy Canes stuffed inside the Christmas Potluck Casserole.

We don’t think it’s a good idea to hide Candy Canes in the middle of the mashed potatoes, either, like the prize in a Mardi Gras King Cake. People know there’s something inside the King Cake, so they put their chew mechanism on “slow” so as not to swallow the little trinket, maybe a Fabergé egg, buried inside by mistake. You don’t want anyone biting into a candy cane if they don’t know it’s coming in the mashed potatoes. Not good for kids or the old folks with dentures. And telling everybody ahead of time would ruin the fun.

Instead, surprise everyone with this recipe for Candy Cane Grilled Cheese sandwiches, and avoid any unpleasant surprises. Even if you live in Louisiana. Mix it up a bit, folks.
