New Year’s Kids Lunch: Baby Dragon Sandwich

The new year is upon us. According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, which represents success and happiness. Now, of course the Chinese new year doesn’t begin until the middle of January, but there’s no reason not to celebrate now with this adorable New Year’s baby dragon sandwich. My girls aren’t exactly fans of dragons, but even they couldn’t resist this little guy!

What You’ll Need:

1 sandwich (your choice)
3 crackers
2 Bugle chips
2 cheddar cheese slices
mozzarella cheese (or any white cheese)
2 black sprinkles

To Make Baby Dragon Sandwich:

Make any kind of sandwich. Using a cup or circle cookie cutter, cut out a large circle. Gently cut one of the crackers in half and place it in the middle of the sandwich for the nose. Position the other two crackers at the base of the sandwich for the feet. (You can use remnants of the sandwich crust to help prop the feet up.) Use a small lid to cut a circle out of the mozzarella cheese. Cut circle in half for the base of the eyes and place accordingly. Cut six small triangles of cheddar for the nails and two tiny triangles for the nostrils. Cut two small rectangles of cheddar cheese for the eyes. Cut wings out of cheddar cheese by hand. Use a small bottle to cut out two circles of cheddar cheese for the paw pads. Put all cheddar cheese pieces into place. Put sprinkles in place for the pupils. Position the Bugle chips at the top of the head for the horns.

May your new year be full of blessings and happiness!
