Fantastic Fourth of July: Your Complete Cookout Menu

Yay! Let’s have a Fourth of July cookout at the park and then watch the fireworks! Except that it’s going to be so crowded that we’ll have to get there way, way ahead of time — like three o’clock in the afternoon — in order to find a place we can spread out. So we’ll be sitting in the sun for about six hours, with small children, and we may not feel like actually using a grill. And even six hours ahead of time, the grills may all be taken when we get there.

Since I can’t offer to help entertain the children, I am going to try to make life easier for you with the following recipes. All of the foods are sturdy enough to hold up in the heat (no melters here!) and the meats can be prepared at home if you don’t feel like dealing with a park grill. The ingredients and/or techniques are mostly indigenous to the United States because the Fourth is all about U-S-A! U-S-A!

And sparklers, of course.
