Chcolate Pecan PieI didn’t grow up eating pecan pie. My family lived in the Northeast where apple was the norm, but when my sister fell in love with a North Carolinian, all of that changed—pecan pie carved out a spot for itself on our Thanksgiving dinner.

Actually, to be more exact, it’s Chocolate Pecan Pie, which, if you ask me, is the only real way to go the pecan route. And while I know that pecan purists may be outraged, hear me out. I find that a high-quality dark or semisweet chocolate really helps to balance the sweetness in this type of pie, which is traditionally made with corn syrup. Add a dollop of whipped cream on top of your slice, and it’s dessert perfection.

Another nice thing about chocolate-pecan pie is that although it seems like it would be expensive to make, it’s actually not. There is only one cup of pecans in this recipe, along with two ounces of chocolate and baking staples like flour, butter, and vanilla. Which means that if you buy the ingredients once, chances are you could make two or three pies out of your supply.

Play with your pecans in these rich, sweet, and simple pies and cookie bars.
