Calzones: Make The Take-Out

Calzones are practically impossible to resist when you’re at your local pizza joint or Italian restaurant. Sautéed meat, savory sauce, fresh herbs, and cheese, all wrapped in tender dough — really, what’s not to like? But budget-wise? Not so great. Like many take-out and fast-food favorites, going the DIY route is better for your wallet, better for your body (homemade is almost always healthier), and way better in the taste department. And making take-out dishes doesn’t require nearly as much effort as you think.
This recipe for Smoky Calzones calls for smoked Gouda instead of the usual mozzarella or ricotta, for a delicious change of pace. And it yields four servings at a cool $3.23 each — you can’t get that price at the pizza joint.
