Caffeine Can Be Good For You

Of course you know that drinking caffeinated beverages too close to bedtime can disrupt your sleep. But did you know that drinking a cup of coffee an hour before you exercise can help you get more out of your workout?
A little caffeine reduces fatigue and helps you exercise just a little bit harder, a little bit longer. And that’s not all: Research shows that caffeine (in moderation, of course) has a number of other positive effects on health — everything from warding off depression to lowering your risk of diabetes and cancer to keeping Alzheimer’s at bay. What counts as moderate? Two to four cups of coffee a day will maximize the health benefits while minimizing the risk of unpleasant side effects like jitters or sleeplessness. If you’re a tea drinker, double up: most tea has only half as much caffeine as coffee. If you’re pregnant or sensitive to stimulants, it’s best to steer clear of caffeine altogether. Otherwise, why not ride that caffeine buzz over to the gym?
