Apple Cakes, Crisps and More: Apple Desserts Galore!

Apples season is one of the best parts of autumn, and apple dessert recipes are everywhere as Thanksgiving approaches. (There’s bound to be someone who brings an apple pie to your annual feast.) But relegating crisp, sweet apples to just one dessert does them a disservice – they lend themselves to so many fantastic sweet applications. Cobblers, dumplings, cheesecakes, crisps, cakes – what can’t apples make more delicious?
Hit the orchard or your local farmers market to marvel over the array of choices available, then choose a mix of sweet and tart varieties. Balancing sweetness (such as Honeycrisps) with a touch of sour (Granny Smiths) gives you an ideal balance of flavor. You should ask your local grower what’s best for baking in your area, but Macintosh and Jonathans both hold up well to heat.
