Like a lot of popular foods, we tend to take hot dogs for granted. Tossed mindlessly on the grill then unceremoniously speared, slapped in a bun and slathered with ketchup and mustard, we often find ourselves scarfing them down without a second thought while the kids hurry to finish so they can go back to running through the sprinkler.

But give hot dogs just a bit more love, and they give back tenfold in flavor. Already tasty on their own, they become the essence of all things summer and good when they’re dressed up with a little fresh tomato and cucumber, or given an exotic twist with kimchi and Sriracha sauce. And come this time of year, it seems you can get hot dogs on sale about every other week. So before you plan your next backyard cookout, may we recommend…
