Berry Gratin

Ingredients
  • 2 cups  strawberries, washed, hulled, and quarteredOn Sale
  • 2 cups  blackberriesOn Sale
  • 2 cups  raspberriesOn Sale
  • 1 cup  blueberries, currants, or gooseberriesOn Sale
  • 3 tablespoons  sugarOn Sale
  • 2 tablespoons  orange-flavor liqueur (optional)On Sale
  • 3   egg whitesOn Sale
  • 6 tablespoons  sugarOn Sale
  • 1 teaspoon  finely shredded lemon or orange peelOn Sale
Directions

Combine all berries, the 3 tablespoons sugar, and liqueur, if desired. Divide among six 8-ounce oval ovenproof dishes.

Meanwhile, beat egg whites in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form (tips curl). Add the 6 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until stiff peaks form. Beat in lemon or orange peel. Spread over berry mixture. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 10 minutes. Serve immediately. Makes 6 servings.
