Berry Gratin
From: Better Homes and GardensFresh berries get a sweet orange-flavored topping in this light baked dessert recipe.
Servings: 6 servings
Ingredients
2 cups strawberries, washed, hulled, and quartered
2 cups blackberries
2 cups raspberries
1 cup blueberries, currants, or gooseberries
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons orange-flavor liqueur (optional)
3 egg whites
6 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon finely shredded lemon or orange peel
Directions
1. Combine all berries, the 3 tablespoons sugar, and liqueur, if desired. Divide among six 8-ounce oval ovenproof dishes.
2. Meanwhile, beat egg whites in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form (tips curl). Add the 6 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until stiff peaks form. Beat in lemon or orange peel. Spread over berry mixture. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 10 minutes. Serve immediately. Makes 6 servings.
